Choosing the Right Helmet For Motorcycling

Many motorcycle riders choose to wear a helmet, but not all are aware of what they should be looking for in a helmet. The helmet is an extremely important accessory that can save your life if you are involved in an accident. Each state has different regulations when it comes to the use of helmets and how riders are supposed to wear them. It is best that riders check with their state to make sure they are following proper protocol before riding.

A helmet is designed to keep the rider’s head from hitting the ground while riding. Helmets also protect the brain from injury in case of a crash. It is important to have a helmet that fits properly. You can determine this by testing it for tightness. A good helmet should fit well and should not be too loose, as this may cause its collapse during a ride.

Another important feature of a helmet is how it works with ventilation. The vents allow air to flow through the helmet and can either keep the air clean while it is circulating inside or keep dirt and other pollutants out. Some helmets have small vents that do not allow much air flow while others have larger vents. Those with larger vents tend to ventilate better and are better at filtering out noise.

Some state law requires the use of vents but there are many who prefer to have no vents at all on a helmet. There are two types of ventilation in a helmet. One type of ventilation works with the vents located in the shell of the helmet. The other type of ventilation is located in the chin bar. Both types work very well and the type of ventilation you have on your face depends on whether you have a shaved chin or not.

When using chin vents on your helmet, you will want to make sure you have a chin bar protector. These are not necessary when riding a bike, but if you do, they can help protect the bars from damage. Chin bars come in different shapes, colors and designs and each one performs differently. You should choose the best chin bar you can afford, one that fits well and does not get in the way while you are riding.

If you don’t wear a helmet that has a full-face shield, you have two options. First, you can buy a full-face helmet, one with the same safety standards as a DOT helmet, but with a full-face helmet you would also have a sun visor, nasal and mouth pieces and a helmet mount. Second, you can get a half-face helmet, one that covers your eyes only and does not protect your face. Some DOT standards allow a half-face helmet, so if this option is what you want, make sure you buy a DOT approved half-face helmet. A DOT approved helmet will be marked with an orange shield on the brow over the eyes and a blue seal mark across the forehead. Tips for buying ahelmet safety certifications.
